I grew up in St. Thomas, and started my relationship with art at about age 5 with the “John Nagy Learn to draw” kit. In high school, I received my first professional instruction from John Smulders. High school was followed by 1 year of Basic Design at Fanshawe College. I then changed direction and become an Emergency Room RN for over 28 yrs.
Throughout the years I still occasionally painted, did some photography, created stained glass windows, built furniture and learned how to upholster furniture, but painting was always there. I am now retired from the “working around the clock world”, and paint regularly on a relaxed part time basis.
I have taken instruction from Caesar Santander (airbrush), Bijan Ghalehpardaz, and Brenda Stonehouse. I have shown at TAP gallery in London, participation in Art Walk 2019, Art in the Park Springbank, London and Hip to Square 2019, plus annual art events with the following art groups.
I am a member of London Community Artists, St. Thomas Art Guild, Port Stanley Art Guild and the Creative Nomads.
I am drawn to my subject matter of nature by the peacefulness , and the beauty, especially the sky, water, shadow and reflection. Mental health, including anxiety decreases when we are in nature, I want to tap into what those elements are. I work primarily in acrylics with some work in oil and watercolor, and have recently began to work in alcohol ink. I hope when you look at my paintings they reflect some of that calmness and positivity one feels outside in nature.
