Susan E. Tanton
Bio
Susan E. Tanton studied Visual Art at the Ontario College of Art in the late 1980's graduating with a diploma in Design, Photography, and Printmaking. O.C.A. taught her to think outside the "box".
What followed school was a twenty year career in the Toronto Film & Television industry as a Scenic Artist & Set Decorator. The film business taught Susan what to do with that "box": mainly the "de-construction" of the box but more importantly the "re-construction" into many new ways of thinking. The film business was about creative problem-solving: taking everyday objects and re-creating them for the purposes of telling a story.
Not unlike her new career as an emerging visual artist; Susan has taken all of those practices and ideas and tranformed them into what is now becoming a lucrative career as a photographer and painter. She combines photography with acrylic paint giving the subject of the photograph a new purpose, an expression of herself.
These paintings have been involved many juried group exhibitions across Ontario over the past 4 years including a semi-solo show with co-exhibitioner, Suzette Terry last October 2009 at the Arts Project in London Ontario. Her photographs have been exhibited in recent shows such as CONTACT 08 and SNAP!09 both in Toronto.
