ARTISTS BIOGRAPHY
S'ine Maule - St. Thomas, Ontario.
My life long interest in art was brought into focus when I began to study, 1979 through
1984, with London sculptor and painter Professor Jiri Hanzalek, formerly of Prague.
During that time I studied charcoal drawing, sculpting, plaster casts, oil, and gouache
technique. I continue to study life drawing and enjoy an independent study of
watercolour and acrylic. I have taken courses at the University of Western Ontario,
Fanshawe College, Museum London (at that time, The London Regional Art Gallery)
and St Thomas Elgin Public Art Centre.
My paintings are from observation of nature, and my frequent trips to Scotland. I have
an affinity for the seashores and islands where I grew up and in all my paintings I try
to capture the spirit and poetic nature of the land. Light is the catalyst, it inspires me
to find the essence of the subject and to try to express a sense of time and place. If I
can elicit a response from the viewer I consider myself successful.
