Bio

I knew from an early age I wanted to be an artist, and have always sketched, and dabbled in various art forms, but earning a living, mothering, and 'wifeing' seemed to have a higher priority than my art. When a close friend died too young of breast cancer, and I too had a minor brush with the big "C" I realized that life is uncertain at best and short. I started to paint seriously in January 2004, and earned 2nd place in a local fine arts competition in Sept of 2005. Mostly self taught I paint at every opportunity, and participate in several area artist guilds and studio groups. I am in several shows a year, both group and solo.

Artist Statement

I welcome commission work.
I love the challenge of portraiture, capturing not just a likness, but a bit of the essence of the person is very satisfying.
When not busy with commissions, my current focus is my series "At Risk". This mixed media series reflects my passionate concern for the environment. Specifically for species at risk.
My vision is to seduce with beauty the viewers of my art, then hit them with the message...
Many of these species, are small seemingly unimportant creatures, that in fact impact our lives greatly. Pollinators ie: bees and butterflies are directly responsible for at lest 3 of 5 bites of the food each of us eat each day, and are indirectly responsible for the other 2.
Amphibians are called the ‘canary in the coal mine’ of the environment. Their sensitivity to pollutants and environmental change are a strong indicator of environmental health.
Other birds, animals and plants, all show us the inter relationship of our actions to the general health and well being of the planet.
Time is short, if we are to make positive changes we must make them NOW!.
My wish is to motivate people to take what ever steps they can, how ever small, to be part of that change.
